Objectors attack unfair new permit plan

The council which is extending parking restrictions to penalise residents, for problems caused by commuters, was today attacked as the first objectors to the council money making scheme.

Simon Coverdale, 52, of Strathearn Road, Marchmont, told the hearing yesterday: “It’s not fair. The commuters are causing the problems as far as I can see and it’s residents who are being asked to pay to keep commuters away from their streets.

“Why is it appropriate for residents to fund the scheme when it’s not their cars causing the problem?”

Mr Coverdale, a music teacher, argued: “Most residents are not going to need those spaces because they will be at work, but I will still have to buy a permit for the school holidays.”

Mr Clement said: “If people work in the city and bring money to the city, they have every right to park in the city.”

Mr Coverdale said: “Let’s provide something for commuters who are vital for keeping the city running.”

All good points and we await to hear the council answering them.
