An article in today’s Evening News raises the question of whether yet again, Maureen ‘Three Houses’ Child, the City’s current finance chief is lying.
First the story mentions:
In total, the city’s finance department is due £79.1m in unpaid council tax dating back to the local authority’s formation in 1996. Most of this has been left uncollected for so long that the Sheriff Court is now left to track down the culprits.
But with final demands issued this week to 68,000 of the city’s 221,000 council tax payers, it means more than 30 per cent of residents dodged at least part of their payment last year.
Then what I presume is the lie:
Labour’s finance leader, Maureen Child, today defended the city’s collection rate and said the council collects more money than any other local authority in Scotland.
