Again let down by the council, local leithers are getting together to do their work. As previously reported here on ‘Edinburgh Sucks!’, the city council have 10 years of trash sitting sitting in the stretch of water from Great Junction Street to the docks. Forth Ports Authority which also have some responsibility in this area are also not doing anything, except that their Director, Sandy Robertson cashes in nearly £400,000 worth of shares and they continue to make bigger and bigger profits
Now the locals are funding their own clean up.
A group of volunteers, including air force pilot Jeremy Morse who returned from service in Iraq this week, are to take to the water on Monday in a rubber dinghy to clear rubbish from the surface of the river. And private refuse collection company Allied Waste has agreed to supply a skip and dispose of the junk.
They hope the clean-up will embarrass the city council and Forth Ports into taking responsibility for the area.
These community spirited locals should be commended for their work. The council should be damned.
I think this shows what the inspiring council does for it’s citizens - oh… that’s a good domain name - maybe we should change it from Edinburgh Sucks to Inspiring Capital.
