Figures today revealed that more that 54 percent of teachers in Edinburgh’s schools are aged between 46 and 65 and will have left the profession by 2020.
Teaching leaders today warned Edinburgh may be particularly affected by a teacher shortage as high property prices may put teaching graduates off from applying for jobs in the Capital.
City education boss, “The Hippy Rev” Ewan Aitken, is like all of his councillor friends, have their heads in the sand:
Ewan Aitken said: “There is no evidence of a teacher recruitment problem in Edinburgh. With the continued improvements in the resourcing of education, in the quality of the school environment and variety of teaching experiences available, there continues to be much to attract those entering the teaching profession to this city’s schools.”
So the Minister, Peter Peacock says there is a problem, the EIS says their is a problem, The Lib-Dems says there is a problem, The Headteachers’ Association of Scotland says there is a problem. I wonder who will prove to be right?
