Word on the street is that the City of Edinburgh is punishing it’s citizens for not voting for them in the recent road tolls referendum.
The Chairman of the Edinburgh based Scottish Taxi Federation:
“It is almost as if they are trying to cause congestion with what they are doing. They are closing off right turns which would normally allow you to get around the city quickly.
“A lot of people feel almost as if they are being punished for voting against the congestion tolls because so many of the decisions and roads don’t make any sense. It’s going to be bad for the drivers and terrible for the passengers, who are going to wonder why everything is taking them so long. Pollution and fumes are going to go up and the extra time will just cost the passengers more.”
Chief Executive of the Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce:
“You hear the view that we are being punished for voting ‘the wrong way’ on the congestion charges. It can take me half an hour to get along Queen Street, which is less than a mile long. That’s right now, without the changes.”
Sue Nicholson, the head of campaigns for the RAC Foundation:
“You can see why people will think that this is revenge for the congestion charges referendum. There are an awful lot of roadworks around the city.”
It is time for people to judge for themselves whether the current reich in power in the City Chambers are representing themselves or the citizens. They were slaughtered in the referendum and then their party then lost a huge percentage of their vote in the general election. It is fast becoming a council for the councillors.
