Holyrood overtime bill doubles

At the same time Audit Scotland are accusing parliament for lying about the amount of money they save, it now emerges that the overtime bill for the ministerial staff has doubled since devolution.

This is a huge embarassment to both Jack McConnell and finance minister Tom McCabe.

An urgent review has now been demanded after figures revealed payments climbed from £191,000 in 1999-2000 to £370,000 by 2004-05.

Last year’s money was shared among 67 staff – the equivalent of £5522 per person – and overtime payments added about 20% to basic wage costs, taking the total bill for ministerial staff to around £2m.
