1 in 10 a Fake

According to Edinburgh Trading Standards in the article below, one in ten of building, roofing and plumbing businesses falsely advertised themselves as members of trade bodies.

Rogue businesses who get away with this stuff has always bothered us here at EdinburghSucks.com because we have also been ripped off by dodgy companies and tradesmen - with problems as recent as Sunday afternoon.

Starting today, we have added new category called ‘Rogue Companies.” We will begin to catalogue these companies or tradesman on a name and shame basis.

The check on 103 traders advertised in the latest edition of the Yellow Pages also revealed more than half of those found to be making false claims had the wrong address listed, making them untraceable for customers who want to contact the firms.

This is the sort of stuff the Council should be on top of and we demend that they take all action against these companies/tradesmen and prosecute them to the fullest extent of the law. If they don’t then we shall highlight it here.

UPDATE June 4.
WOW! After the post being here for only about 8 hours (and all of those hours were overnight) I have been anonymously emailed 7 companies for the ‘Rogue Traders section” This has created a problem - I need more information before posting about these companies and have no way to contact the emailers.

1st Rule - Before I can post these companies and for this purpose only, I need real email addresses to contact anyone who submits someone to be named and shamed. Obviously, there has to be some homework done by us on the companies and we may need some more information. There are many places where you can get an anonymous email, Yahoo, Gmail etc - it is just that we will need to contact everyone who wishes to make an entry. I confirm that I WILL NOT use the emails for any other purpose than to contact the person who sent in the post and I will delete all emails as soon as the post has been made on this site or within 5 days If I have not gotten a reply.
