After the Sunday Herald made a Freedom of Information request back in February for copies of all the MSP’s travel expenses since 2001. Officials released details of the claims but scored out most of the destinations of the taxi fares McLetchie recouped.
As the Sunday Herald reported, officials also scored out the names of people who used McLetchie’s taxi account – with the Scottish Tory leader’s identity being the exception.
Moreover, the parliament has decided to withhold information on McLetchie’s taxi journeys to specific destinations, arguing that it would be unfair to publish such “personal data.
Quite normally this would perk a journalist’s interests but the only word from McLetchie was from a spokesman who said he couldn’t answer for the parliament’s decision to withhold the information on taxi journeys. The BBC reports today that:
The Tories will not say if Mr McLetchie has billed parliament for taxi journeys to and from the law firm Tods Murray where he used to work.
It is time that MSPs learned that we are paying their wages. If you haven’t done anything wrong then there is no problem releasing the details. If you have done something wrong then sort the thing out and hold your hands up.
A spokesman’ for the Labour party told the BBC:
“If there is any suggestion that David McLetchie has been using parliamentary funds to subsidise his work as a lawyer he should come clean about that immediately.”
Talk about the pot calling the kettle black.
