When bumbling Andy Burns, our failed transport ’supremo’ announced that buses will be banned from George Street and diverted along Princes Street from Sunday he put yet another boot in the stomach of the elderly, disabled and their carers after we found out that their care homes were a nightmare. With the parking spaces in the area being slashed and everyone forced on to buses this means that carers for the disabled who are often unpaid family will have to push that wheelchair up the hill from Princes Street.
For elderly and infirm people they will have the walk up that hill to reach the shops and offices on George Street.
The changes form part of the Central Edinburgh Traffic Management project (CETM) which has already seen cars banned from Princes Street between 8am and 9pm and has lost the disabled hundreds of parking spaces around the city centre.
The reason these changes go through without any problem is because 90% of the citizens of Edinburgh just don’t know what it is like to push a person around the city center with a wheelchair. I do, and it is not a task for the weak.
This is not a new thing, as far back as September 2003, Andrew Burns and jew jew insulting Lord Provost Lesley Hinds were all in favour of cow-towing to the Assembly Rooms impresario William Burdett-Coutts and closing off George Street completely during the festival so that Burdett-Coutts could make more money and the disabled of the city just thrown aside.
