Councillor Phil Attridge is whining today in the Evening News about flyposting in Edinburgh. Our leaders are demanding new laws to deal with the problem after admitting that they were powerless to punish the perpetrators.
City licensing leader Phil Attridge said: “There seems to be a real lack of suitable legislation in place to deal with flyposting and it’s really up to the Scottish Executive to sort out.
“We want measures available to tackle the licence-holder, the promoters of individual events and the flyposters themselves. It’s not good enough for people to absolve themselves of responsibility and say ‘it wisnae me’.
Well Phil, for a start don’t bother the Scottish Executive quite yet until you get your own house in order. Wasn’t the unelected member for Portobello, Maureen ‘three houses’ Child caught red-handed earlier this year, erm…. flyposting. Maybe next time you are in the council chamber you can have a look over at her and ask her to hand herself into the police and get her to take her due punishment.
Another place to head on to after the chamber is the next time you are in a local labour party meeting with the dishonourable member for Edinburgh South, a certain Nigel Griffiths, perhaps you can ask him for our money back, that is the money that the council spent by asking the cleansing department to take down his illegal ‘flypostings’ during the election.
“At the end of the day this is antisocial behaviour that we’re talking about and the ASBOs may help, but new laws do need to be drawn up on this. Flyposting is a growing problem in Edinburgh and badly needs to be addressed as at the moment there is very little anyone can do about it.”
That’s right Councill Attridge - it’s antisocial behaviour and that antisocial behaviour is coming from our elected Members of Parliament and our Councillors. Do something about it.
