City Council

Screwed up NHS Quality – take tourism

The Understatement of the Year! How can this be happening? A director of NHS Quality Improvement Scotland, will head the Edinburgh area office of VisitScotland from the end of this month.

One of the greatest complaints in Edinburgh, other than the council, is the NHS, it’s quality and it’s lack of improvement thanks not to the doctors and nurses but the orders from the top. So now one of the people responsible for that is put in charge of tourism for the city.

This must prove, without doubt – that the bung system and jobs-for-the-lads is alive and well.

The man appointed, Ben Carter, was commercial manager with healthcare firm Ethicon before joining the health service standards watchdog in February 2004 – and for people not sure exactly what dodgy business Ethicon have been up to with your money, pick up a copy of Private Eye – they are in most issues.

The understatement of the day comes from Shandon’s Labour councillor Donald Wilson who is chairman of the Edinburgh and Lothians Area Tourism Partnership and states:

“I’m content that Ben Carter is of the calibre we want, but the fact he has no industry experience is going to be a challenge for him.”

A challenge! A bloody challenge! – it is a NIGHTMARE. Unless Edinburgh is now going into the ‘health tourism’ business this is a text book case of total mismanagement.

The question must be asked did Councillor Wilson or any of Telfon Don Anderson’s cabinet get a bung for this?
