The Evening News kindly gave the leader of the council, the hapless and ’sad’ Teflon Don Anderson the perfect opportunity to thank the council workers, the police, the bar workers, the taxi drivers and all the people who suffered and lost out because of the situation in Edinburgh last week.
Unfortunately Anderson wasted the opportunity to tell us about a councillor and council official who obviously stood by watching the law being broken.
Why did Teflon Don not thank the police, thank the street cleaners thank the shop workers and taxi drivers who were at times in danger and most importantly thank the citizens of the city. These are the people on the front line, not the ones sitting in Fettes watching the nightmare unfold on CCTV.
Council leader Donald Anderson admitted the city had been “tested to the wire” and said the council had underestimated the hit retailers would take.
Actually the council had been told that there would be a bit hit for city center retailers and businesses on many occasions before the week started but they decided to ignore that piece of advice.
The concert at Murrayfield was a truly inspiring event.
I do hope that Anderson got his ticket in the raffle or he at least donated some money to a charity. There was no need at all for Anderson to have attended the concert as leader of the Council because many concerts are held at Murrayfield and they don’t require his attendance.
To show his total insensitivity to the situation that had unfolded in London, councillor Anderson then went on to say:
Edinburgh must be proud that she faced up to perhaps her greatest challenge in modern times, and we passed this test with flying colours.
At that time, the emergency services were trying to pull bodies from the underground in London.
