Confidentiality NOT guaranteed

I write to colleagues but can't find reverseIt looks like Lothian Buses will get the ballot they asked the union for but in a bit of an unorthodox way. By that happening the the confidentiality that Pilmar Smith, the company’s Chairman, promised his drivers will go out the window because of extremely bad planning.

It seems that all of the drivers who received the letter from their ‘colleague’ and who decide they don’t want to accept one of the Lothian Buses offers will be handing the letters to their trade union representatives unsigned for return to the Chairman who seems to have now completely blown the confidentiality of the drivers who are supposed to be on the Bus Company’s side.

So what happens is:

  • Drivers who want to go ahead with the strike action return the letters to the union.
  • Drivers who want the strike action to cease return the letters to Lothian Buses.
  • Union counts letters in their stewardship
  • Lothian Buses counts letters in their stewardship
  • Questions:

  • What happens if the total comes to more than 1,400?
  • If more than 50% send forms to their ‘colleague’ Pilmar will union admit defeat?
  • If more than 50% give forms to union will Lothain Buses admit defeat?
  • How many drivers will it take Lothian Buses to give Edinburgh the bus service it deserves without resorting to drivers having to work overtime?
  • Was the fact East Lothian was the only council bordering Edinburgh who agreed with the council’s congestion charge have anything to do with the fact that Pilmar Smith is Chairman of East Lothian Labour Party!
  • There is now questions as to whether Smith and Renilson were just stupid by sending out the letter or whether they were doing the same as Mrs. Thatcher did with the miners in the 80’s and are putting driver against driver. Perhaps confidentiality was the last thing the Chairman and Chief Executive cared about.
