Less than one day after the security and IT nightmare happening in the Craigmillar appeared on EdinburghSucks!.com the powers that be managed to get a secure form for applications. Once again, EdinburghSucks!com makes a change.
There was a week where we were running round Craigmillar trying to get the powers that be that are involved in the running of what should be a change to the site. EdinburghSucks!com, all of the parties funding this project and the community now needs the following questions answered
1. How many applications were completed using the insecure form? 2. What steps have been taken to contact these unfortunate people and let them know about the lack of security? 3. What steps have the board of Haywired taken to make sure that security of personal and confidential information held by the project will be safely and securely handled in the future? 4. What legal contingency has the board of Haywired put in place in case someone sues Haywired over the handling of their confidential information? 5. What action was taken by the board, on behalf of the community , with the IT advisors who installed the insecure form for the Haywired board and what part will those advisors play in any legal action brought by possible stolen identities. 6. As these IT advisors are obviously outsourced by Haywired, will Haywired name them? If such a potentially huge error, which could totally destroy the life of a person through identity theft is allowed to take place and continue for a week after reporting, who has the knowledge to interview the potential staff for this project?
Other questions will have to be answered over time. Why is an IT project being ran daily by a board who have confessed publicly that they know nothing about IT? Why there is a management committee that can’t answer simple questions like the ones that we have posed?
Further question that require to be answered to the community is, at the community council meeting they:
didnt let [EdinburghSucks!.com] know that according to the SIP application CBP, Chilcare Services and CafeK as well as the community council have a place on Haywired board.
I know for a fact that Paul Nolan, David Walker and Patsy King all attend steering group meetings. Others around the table who work for these organisations have staffed Haywired on a regular basis since it opened. Also Mac Wilkinson and his staff have a big involvement in the management.
We were recently furnished with a copy of the Craigmillar Partnership Funding Panel minutes of it’s last meeting and they confirm that Haywired does in fact have the aforementioned management committee and that indeed Mac Wilkinson does have a large involvement in the managment.
The city councillors need to have an investigation into how projects are being managed in Craigmillar. We will call for and lobby for this investigation on a regular basis so that the community in Craigmillar get what they deserve.
This article (click here - A wasted opportunity) was written in June 2002 and it is as relevant or more relevant today. Councillor O’Donnell, Lord Provost and Council Leader, our communities need more.
