Council blasted by Police - open for comments

I take no bungsThe council have been forced into making huge changes to the extremely controversial new traffic restrictions in the city center. £3.2 million of our money has been spent on the scheme which has turned the city center into a nightmare not only for motorists but also put pedestrian lives in danger and forced the elderly and disabled of the city out of the city center.

It emerged today that the council has now caved in to pressure from officers, and has introduced more signs, road markings and diversion notices to help motorists understand the changes to traffic flow in Princes Street and the surrounding area. It has also reduced the width of one road and will consider introducing bollards to help enforce the restrictions. The AA today said it was “amazing” that alterations were being made at this late stage.

With his typical underplay, Bumbling Andrew Burns he came out today and said “We have been in discussion with the police with regard to what revisions we can introduce to help drivers to understand the measures and in turn help the police to enforce them.” They have had YEARS to get this right. It now looks like the World Heritage Site is a collection of road signs and road painting which foreign to the city may not be able to read let alone understand.

This is a topic where lots of people seem to be being affected by what is happening. Taxi drivers have complained bitterly to EdinburghSucks!com as have members of the police force We also have a lot of exerience of the nightmare getting elderly and disabled people into the city center to shop for basics like underwear in M & S and just to see the center of the city.

This post is open for comments and we welcome all comments.

  1. Another bl**dy shambles. Moving traffic away from George Street doesn’t solve anything, the traffic doesn’t disappear, it merely moves the traffic onto another rat run. Queen Street in the morning is a nightmare.

  2. What a mess this stupid council are making of Edinburgh traffic! For years this council has changed roadlayouts, put silly road calming bollards on roads where cars could not speed anyway cos of the narrowness of the road. Changed the layout of the West End junction on numerous occasions, at what cost!!! One wonders do they all live within walking distance of the City Chambers, even if they do not, they have their offricial cars.

Goodness I could go on and on .. when will they see sense not everyone can access buses, e.g I have a long to get to a bus stop and I am not very mobile, so much for their park and ride, that is another joke. Get small buses on the narrower roads in the outlying estates of Edinburgh and they it might be feasible.

  3. If I was paranoid, I might think that the council is deliberately making the traffic situation worse. Why? so they can hold another referendum in two or so years time, saying “look we told you we needed the congestion charge, you rejected it last time. You can see now that was a mistake. Here is your chance to approve it again.”

Plosh! another 8m down the drain on the 2009 traffic congestion charge referendum.
