Teflon Donald Anderson, the city leader, or as they say in German, Führer, has backed the city’s gateways project over the required overhaul of the “dilapidated” traffic light signalling technology which is more than 20 years old.
More than £1.6 million which was earmarked for the project is now going to be used to tidy up 3 roads leading to the city instead of putting the safety of the citizens first.
The city gateways project, which was championed by council leader Donald Anderson, will see three of the busiest roads into Edinburgh - the A1, A8 and A701 -undergo a £1.65 million makeover to ensure visitors get a good first impression of the Capital. But the proposed traffic lights upgrade won the support of the council’s city development department, including that of director Andrew Holmes.
So now not only the city’s development department who are supposed to be in charge of the development of our city are up in arms but motoring watchdog the AA are also disappointed with the incredibly stupid, or as they say in German, unglaublich dumm, decision.
A council spokeswoman said today: “Edinburgh is the gateway to Scotland and we want the roads into the city to reflect that.”
Someone should tell that to the people driving into Scotland from the border in the south, flying in to Scotland via airports at Inverness, Aberdeen and Glasgow, coming to Scotland by ferry from Northern Ireland and I am sure many other ways we have left out.
Why should we be spending £1.6 million tidying up the looks of 3 roads coming into the city when we could be ensuring the safety of our citizens.
