Councillor Steve Cardownie says today on his resignation from the nightmare that is the labour party in Edinburgh was taken honourably
Today Cllr Cardownie said: “I have had no indication that my position was under threat. Labour will try to spin it that I am leaving for personal reasons, but that is not the case.
“I have taken what I think could be deemed to be an honourable position to leave the Labour group by joining a dynamic party better able to represent the Scottish people and ultimately gain independence.”
So if this is the case, why didn’t he do it as a high-ranking member of the ruling Labour party? What does defection to the SNP do to make him honourable.
If he was honourable, he would have stopped or tried to stop the money being spent on what he calls “a pound of mince” which Teflon Don calls “changes to the road system in the new town”. He would have been honourable if he had spoken out against the Trams instead of helping to spend millions so far and impose tram taxes on developers. This man is not or ever has been honourable.
This is the man who milked the city on his expenses, ran a pub without a license and the correct planning permission, was widely accused of using the city’s money on trips to Kiev to enhance his love life and has national newspapers looking into other suspected dodgy dealings. Saying that he only now notices the right leaning lurch in the Labour party shows that he honestly believes the electorate of Edinburgh are dumb.
The SNP will be a much worse party with Cardownie as a candidate. Yes he should resign, but not the resignation that Teflon Don and his Labour Mob are looking for, he should resign from politics ‘to spend more time with his family’.
