The Evening News’ Gina Davidson last week got behind what really happens in the city chambers when you thought that the councillors were looking after your interests. Ha!
council insiders say that Councillor Trevor Davies, currently the city’s planning convener, is manoeuvring to try to take Anderson’s role as leader of the council. “He has been seen in talks with Eric Milligan, which people think can only mean one thing,” says a council source.
“That they’re thrashing out a deal where Trevor becomes leader and Eric can take the position of Lord Provost again.
“Trevor has been desperate to get on to the council’s executive for some time. He’s very ambitious, and it’s no secret he fancies himself as a future leader.
“There was an attempt to get him on the executive before, but it never happened so this could be the time he makes his bid.”
and:
In the meantime, Cllr Anderson will have to hold the Labour group together - a group which has long loved to stab its own members in the back in the bid for power. As one source close to Cllr Anderson says: “Donald is hoping that the selection process won’t take place for quite some time, because if it does, he could be left with a group of councillors who know they won’t be there after 2007, and may decide to cause as much trouble as possible for him before they go.
Maybe it is the infighting that is resulting in the nighmare scenarios like the congestion charge fiasco, the city centre clearances and the rush to Glasgow for shopping. The article, linked below, is well worth a read and shows that our councillors are not indeed representing the citizens - they are representing themselves to get the bungable positions.

[…] …and this is what happens when the council choose a monday morning to start some non-urgent roadworks. In defence of the council, that might be to save paying overtime or weekend rates for the works staff. On the other hand, if it were, then they wouldn’t be employing staff to go to George Street every morning and afternoon to MANUALLY raise the AUTOMATIC bollards they have inserted in the formerly beautiful Georgian new town street. See here. Still, on the bright side, Cardownie’s left, and it looks like there are eyes on Anderson’s job, so it won’t be long before the Old Labour knives are out! […]
