A couple of days ago when we reported on the resignation of David Mcletchie, unfortunately we called too early on his successor. Even party right winger Brian Monteith said he was disappointed he had been unable to persuade Mr Fraser to stand for the leadership.
He added: “In my opinion there was never the prospect of any other Tory MSP than Murdo attracting enough nominations to make a leadership contest with Annabel credible or worthwhile.
But politics being what it is, the backroom deal had already been done and Annabel Goldie becomes the leader of the Scottish Tories, with Rangers supporting Murdo Fraser as her deputy.
Interestingly, it doesn’t seem the Goldie/Fraser team don’t have too many hopes for the future.
“We both feel positive as we consider how we should take our party and our group forward in Scotland.
“We are both utterly united in doing our best to ensure there is a robust opposition presence in Scotland.”
They know they will never get into power, but they will provide a robust opposition.
Refreshing for them as politicians, to tell us that they have reached their limit! Nice one!
