The former head of Lothian Health Board Margaret Ford, who chaired the board for three years up until 2000, appears on a leaked list of 28 new working peers due to be announced next month which has sparked a cash-for-peerages row.
Seemingly most of the people on the list are the millionaires who bankrolled both the Labour and Conservative election campaigns although it is not presently known if Ford made any donations to the Labour party - we will have to contact William Hill to see what odds he is offering.
Fiona Hyslop from the SNP, that is the party that is quite happy to accept extremely dodgy councillors says:
“It is very damaging to democracy for the House of Lords to continue in a way which says if you are close to Labour you get in and you get on.
“To many in Lothian she is remembered as the woman who drove through the expensive new Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, the cost of which is still sucking the NHS dry in Edinburgh and the Lothians.”
Former anti-sleaze MP Martin Bell and Newsreader said “This brings politics into disrepute. How can people trust their politicians?“. Martin, we dont!
