The city’s archives which date back to the tenth century we have now found out have been all but ignored since local government reorganisation 10 years ago.
The move follows scathing criticism from George MacKenzie, the Keeper of the Records of Scotland, of the city’s archives, which has thousands of artifacts detailing the history of Edinburgh underneath the city chambers and in an office at Murrayburn.
The archive expert, who is responsible for the management of the National Archives of Scotland, said the council had not made “proper arrangements” to store its thousands of documents and urgently needs an overhaul to improve staffing, cataloguing and preservation.
Whilst the council have been spending millions of pounds on referendums where they have been knocked by by the citizens of the city, they have been ignoring the city’s history which brings in millions of tourists pounds year round.
This is typical of the City Council who refuse to care about their city but only care about making sure that their pet projects are accepted to ensure continued receipt of the public purse.
