The snagging list - how much?

Parly-windaes.jpgBack on 19th February Murdo MacLeod wrote an article in Scotland on Sunday telling us that the snagging list for the new £431m parliament had reached a milestone and there were under 100 jobs on the list, 74 to be exact.  Oh how the ‘Parliament spokeswoman’ was in her glee when she said:

“We have consistently said that snagging is part of any new building process, whether it is a new home or a world-class Parliament building.

“It is important to stress that snagging involves no cost to the taxpayer.”

The article went on to say:

Many of the jobs are minor, including a valve to a heater in the main chamber of the Parliament, paint work for a lamp post and the wrong label on a fan.

But some are more involved, such as extra cutting to be carried out on paving slabs around the new building.

Now, call us stupid but we are making the presumption that the roof falling down wasn’t on that list and has it now been puy on the list?  Surely if the snagging list was down to 1 job and that job was the roof falling down it could be described as slightly more than snagging.

How interesting today to find out that we were right in our previous post (The £431m conservative nut cracker) on this subject and the parliamentary spokespeople were wrong when we said what the costs would be.  Today we find out that they are currently standing at £113,000 and will probably rise we reckon as the costs for the building have since day 1.

What was interesting about the ’snagging’ article was a quote from Architecture critic Deyan Sudjic who claimed that the building was a “slow triumph”, adding: “Scotland’s Parliament is emerging as one of the finest new British buildings of the last 50 years.”

We assume he meant that it is emerging as one of the finest new British buildings of the last 50 years if the bloody roof stays up!
