There’s no social justice in councillor’s claims

COUNCILLOR John Longstaff’s grasp on reality is as flawed as his judgement in joining a tired Labour administration (News, March 28).

He is said to have “confirmed suspicions leaked to the Evening News in January that the Lib Dems and Tories are keen to form a coalition.” What nonsense!

Cllr Longstaff also accuses the Lib Dems of being “more interested in discussing who will be Lord Provost” than strategy. Again, this is pure fantasy.

However, these issues are trifling alongside Cllr Longstaff’s assertion that “Labour are the true guardians of the social justice agenda”. This is just laughable.

In all his time as a Lib Dem councillor, John Longstaff has never once indicated his opposition to Liberal Democrat policies on social justice.

Now, we discover that all along he has apparently backed compulsory ID cards, dawn raids on the families of asylum-seekers, loans for peerages, council tax and not a fair local income tax, selling off playing fields to support PPP school schemes, and the iniquities of the benefits system.

Finally, when he praises Labour’s capping policy for local schools, which may mean siblings are unable to attend the same school, it may be pertinent to ask Cllr Longstaff about the schooling of his own children. Educational choice, if you can afford it?

Makes you wonder how their colleagues manage to get on so well at Follyrood. Wonder if they will give John da Traitor a right of reply.
