WaterfrontGate – Is ‘Lady’ Elizabeth Maginnis really Bunty Backhander?

According to a commentator on PiltonSucks.com (http://piltonsucks.com/2006/03/16/waterfront-symposium/#comment-47 ), there is corruption and malpractice down at Waterfront Edinburgh.  The commentator, who obviously moves in Council circles because of some of the terms used, seems to have serious gripes and insider information on what is happening with the fast failing project in terms of social inclusion and regeneration.

After last weeks press outing by the experts ( http://www.edinburghsucks.com/2006/03/30/flagship-waterfront-or-future-ghetto/ ) who called the project a “ghetto of the future” and said that some of the buildings looked ”as if it’s been made out of chewing gum and string”.  Not only the Director of Napier University’s School of the Built Environment, but Architecture and Design Scotland (ADS – the public body set up as a national champion for good architecture, design and planning) and the Cockburn Association have all come out against the project with comments like “premature, ill-conceived and most probably uneconomical” and “profoundly unconvincing”.

In the middle of this comes multi-tasking Councillor Elizabeth Maginnis the Chairperson of the project.  This is a lady with approximately zero experience of a project like this is somehow trying to sell it to the city when all the experts and tries to assure us that a super casino is just what Granton needs.

Councillor Maginnis who was practically stopped attending her surgeries in her ward in favour of what seems to be multiple trips abroad is coming under serious scrutiny by her constituents.

News into EdinburghSucks.com is that she has already stuffed the local community council with her friends and family so that she retains power in the area no matter what happens.

If the PiltonSucks.com commentator is to be believed, it is her colleagues within the council chamber that are calling her Bunty Backhander and some information we have been sent certainly looks as though there is conflicts of interest within her dealings.  We shall be following this post up in the next few days once we have some clarification on some points.
