Capacity Building Project

Are the Council joining The Fix?

With the opening of nominations for Craigmillar Community Council, the body that gives the corrupt people the power in Craigmillar’s ‘poverty industry’, the council’s Community Council and Liaison & Development Officer is refusing to distribute nomination forms to interested members of the public.

Jack Odonnell.jpgYet another huge ‘conflict of interest’ took place in the district a couple of weeks ago when the current community council, the majority of whom are employed by the area’s ‘poverty industry’, decided to keep to the power they would nominate one of their own employees as the returning officer because the local councillor, Jack O’Donnell who would normally carry out this procedure declared himself too busy – to busy to help his constituents.  Mike Bell, a worker at Crapacity Building Project was nominated.

CBP.pngUpon the first stage of ‘The Fix’ going in, the community reacted with anger.  A grass-roots petition was immediately started to have an independent returning officer appointed by the Council.  Because of the short time until the election was started, the people collecting signatures had to stop before covering anywhere near the whole area.  However, the managed to collect far in excess of 400 signatures still leaving a lot of the community disappointed that they never had the opportunity to sign the petition.  To put this into perspective, normally community council’s are lucky to get the 16 members nominated to make up the Council – in this case there were many hundreds up in arms.  This petition also had many more signatures than the heavily funded ‘craigmillar declaration’ which the ‘poverty industry’, ran by disgraced ex-councillor Paul Nolan (board member of Crapacity Building Project), reported racist and Manger of Crapacity Building Project - David Walker and Patsy King (Nolan’s 1st Cousin, Walker’s current partner and board member of Crapacity Building Project) put up to the Council and Parliament as the voice of the community.

More than 400 signatures have been gathered for a petition against the appointment of Mike Bell, a development worker with Craigmillar’s Capacity Building Project, because his boss, David Walker, is secretary of Craigmillar Community Council.

Four other members of the existing community council, including chairman Paul Nolan, are also directors of the Capacity Building Project – a training and support group aimed at regenerating Craigmillar.

Residents, who want as little as possible to do with the returning officer whom they do not trust are now further being let down by the Council who is refusing to supply them with nomination forms. and forcing them to go to a person they do not trust.

When will it all end?
