It seems that Teflon Don caved into the severe pressure to go by his labour colleague councillors on the Council. It is interesting that the ’senior councillor’ interviewed by the Evening News didn’t bother to give his/her name.
One senior councillor said: “There was already evidence he had one eye on Edinburgh South and there were growing fears that more and more policy announcements and statements would be more geared to winning that seat.
“Quite a number of us have been keen to see him stand down as soon as possible and make way for someone else, although he has been reluctant to do so.
“There is a substantial salary and prestige attached to being council leader and he had to think long and hard before deciding not to stand in the council election next time round.
“But, at the end of the day, the interests of the Labour Group have to take priority.”
Ahem, senior councillor, shouldn’t the interests of the electorate take priority or are you forgetting who voted you in and who will be quite possibly voting you out no matter whose house you now hold your labour party meetings in nowadays.
There are lots of questions as to why Teflon Don made the decision today - some are suggesting that the fact that fæces were left outside his office door recently was the beginning of the sh*t hitting the fan, so to speak. Seemingly the ‘dirty squad’ was brought in to clean it up pronto.
