Readers Letters - Anatomy of a dick (private)

We haven’t had readers letters for a while and while we are at it we would like to thank all correspondents into EdSucks towers, a lot of them are indeed interesting and a lot of them have resulted in posts on the site. We are truly grateful for contributions to the site and it is you correspondents who make the site the success it is today.

We are quite used to getting death and other threats from certain members of the community and it never ceases to amaze us that our detractors just don’t do the homework before they send them, because we certainly do the homework when we receive them.

As an example, we yesterday received the following letter from Detection Solutions Ltd at the following email address xxxxxx.case976003@dsltd.lri.co.uk: (xxxxxx being someone’s name who may or may not be involved with posting on this site)
Detection Solutions Ltd wrote:

Dear Sir,

You have caused to publish the following statement on your website:

“For years, innocent people going through the planning process have been at a loss to figure out how the planning process worked in Edinburgh and many assumed that it was by the brown envelope convention.”

This is in fact defaming and wholly incorrect. It is our clients view that this statement has been made due to your personal antagonism towards the City of Edinburgh Council, and if you were honest you would mention that your own planning application (XX/XXXXX/FUL) was rejected as it was not within planning guidleines etc. Since then you have shown extreme malice towards all matters Council, in particular you have made personal and alarming attacks on Council employees and elected members.

I would suggest that you do not continue to publish blatant lies and false accusations as legal action is pending.

Our information gathering operation has been concluded and our file on you is approaching completion.

As you will soon see, you will not be immune from both civil action and criminal prosecution.

You have made some very fundamental errors which now enable us to commence proceedings.

For your information papers and warrants will be served to:-
Mx. XXXXX XXXXX
XXX XXXXXX XXXXXX
XXXX XXX

Details have also been passed to Telewest Plc and we are currently liaising their Blueyonder abuse team.

Moreover, the Lothians and Borders Police High Tech Crime Unit have already asked us for details of your activities and you should expect seperate direct contact from them.

Unfortunately, cessation of further defamation and lies on this website will not avoid these actions being brought against you, your partner and your two key associates, whom we have also been tracking and monitoring.

Yours faithfully,

Detection Solutions Ltd
Now let’s dissect the email:

Looking at the email address you will find that lri.co.uk is Learning Resources International who provide learning and knowledge solutions so why would they have a subdomain that was supposed to be a private dick (in all senses of the words). Next go to Companies House website (http://www.companieshouse.co.uk/) do a webcheck of Detection Solutions Ltd and you will find that they actually supply cabling products and services. Why would this cabling company have a subdomain on this Education supplier - oops, boob and that is just the email address.

Next we check against our logs and find that Detection Solutions Ltd have in fact contacted us before. Unfortunately they forgot to put down their company name because their previous communications came from john@thecooncil.com on 27th March at 11.42am Eastern Standard Time (EST) and stephen on 13th March at 8:45am EST with one of them being extremely rude and full of bad and abusive language - not the type of stuff one would expect from a private dick who is in the employ of the council as the email definitely suggests. There are also numerous other communications from the same person but too many to go into here - isn’t there, you naughty boy - and we use the term boy informatively.

Now the body of the email.
This is in fact defaming and wholly incorrect - Referring to “For years, innocent people going through the planning process have been at a loss to figure out how the planning process worked in Edinburgh and many assumed that it was by the brown envelope convention.”

Actually, we are confident that should we run a poll on this site asking our readers if they think it is wholly incorrect the answer would be in the opposite. Look for a future post where we try out our thoughts on this subject.

Real private dicks actually don’t send long saliva dripping emails telling their quarry what they are up to. They just get on with the job and take action. We know, because one of the best contributors to our glorious site is one and had a good laugh reading your comments.

Secondly, we actually welcome any attempt at civil action because also, as friends of the site, we have a number of lawyers both in Scotland and the U.S. who regularly give advice to us and even contribute. In our reportage we actually don’t publish lies. If, in the past we inadvertently have published incorrect statements, we always give the withdrawal and the apology equal prominence to the original post as our readers always see. We believe we have done it twice in the past 13 months.

It is our clients view that this statement has been made due to your personal antagonism towards the City of Edinburgh Council, and if you were honest you would mention that your own planning application (XX/XXXXX/FUL) was rejected as it was not within planning guidelines etc.

We did look up the planning application you mentioned on the Council’s website. It is a strange conclusion to make considering that the planning application was in fact a full 4 years prior to the launching of EdinburghSucks.com - shurely shome mishtake.

For your information papers and warrants will be served to:-
Mx. XXXXX XXXXX
XXX XXXXXX XXXXXX
XXXX XXX

For your information, the name on the planning application you mention does not seem to match the name on which the ‘papers and warrants’ will be served - can you please explain your private dick logic here. Further, with only a slight piece of knowledge in the private dick area, you will know that papers and warrants need to be served on the owner of the site - case law in this is extremely clear and we can quote it to you if you care to contact us again.

Details have also been passed to Telewest Plc and we are currently liaising their Blueyonder abuse team.

As a “dick: private” do you think that passing details on to arbritary ISPs would help your investigation. Unless you know something that we don’t, the site has zero connection to Telewest nor Blueyonder - and in fact if you had done your research you would have found out that when Telewest did the restructuring (in 2004) they are no longer called Telewest plc but went to Telewest Communications plc, this however was surpassed on 3rd March 2006 when the merger with ntl brought them into the ntl family and are now known as ntl Incorporated.

Finally, can you tell ‘your clients’ that they have actually engaged you - they didn’t know they had until now so you may find getting payment will be difficult.

Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha - it did give us a good laugh but surely not as big as the people you tried to fool at NEC when you said you were late for your meeting because your private plane (a Sopwith Camel, we believe) had broken down.
