Elizabeth Bunty Backhander Maginnis worried

It seems that the newest recruit as Labour whip in the council Elizabeth Maginnis has started her post of very well. One of the first jobs she managed to do was to send a memo round to all councillors telling them “to make sure there were no more leaks” because she is worried about the information on her is now getting out to EdinburghSucks and our friends over at PiltonSucks.com, thereby leaving her open to more public scrutiny.

Maginnis has many problems with conflicts of interest becoming public as a lot of her friends are now getting sick of the gravy train she has lorded over in North Edinburgh and especially the way in which the Pilton Elderly Project merged with Murhouse Circle Six project and all of the financial irregularities she though were swept under the carpet are beginning to now show to the public.

So the beginning of her new job as whip to try and stop the leaking ended up in a leak. Sorry Bunty!

Readers will also remember that Maginnis was slated in the Evening News in January for being one of the councillors without special responsibilities on the Council’s executive who ran up a huge taxi bill.

Maginnis who is known around the chambers as Bunty Backhander has quite a few jobs to shuffle. As well as being a councillor and full-time employee of Pilton Elderly Project she is also the Chairperson of Edinburgh’s Waterfront where other financial irregularites and complete slamming of the project has been forthcoming in recent weeks. Even her councillor colleague Trevor Davies has told the press he is not happy with what is happening down at the Waterfront. Mrs Maginnis also manages to run her own consulting company with her publicly employed husband who works for the health board. She manages to find time to write reports for Capital City Partnership among other public bodies. Other jobs include Chair of the Pilton Partnership, Chair of the Funding Panel which awards her projects money and of course as reported earlier on EdSucks, she also has installed her family and friends so that she also has the Community Council tied up. Bloody busy lady.

However, it seems that it is OK being a councillor and take the money, but to actually do the work of a councillor - Maginnis has not turned up to her surgeries for at least the last 5 weeks leaving her constituents who turn up to be turned away and have their time wasted and their problems compound. So she will take you vote and then come back in 4 years and ask for it again.

So much for the open and transparent council we have.
