Calls to council costs more than calls to Australia

It seems that telephone calls to the council when you have a problem with their pisspoor website myEdinburgh is going to hit your pocket and hit it hard.

When you click on the link to take you to “Getting the best from myEdinburgh” (http://www.myedinburgh.org/?page=1277&screen=1&custom=1) as well getting an email address you are also given telephone number which is  07005 980557.  Upon checking the details for this number (click here) you find out that to call the number to find out how to get the best out of myEdinburgh it will cost you 31.91p per minute plus VAT during daytime hours which takes the cost up to or approximately 37.5p per minute.  Currently the BT cost for calling Australia is about 24p per minute for a daytime call using the BT together plan.

the myEdinburgh website which cost the council millions of pounds has gone from bad to worse.  It used to have forums which was a huge part of the development of the site but the council pulled them a few weeks ago when it was pointed out that they could be legally liable for the posts on the site, a problem that wasn’t looked into before ploughing hundreds of thousands of taxpayers cash into it.  More recently, another major part of the site, the email system, was last week pulled from the site when EdinburghSucks.com informed the council of the security flaws in the system and suggested that the employees were checking other’s, possibly including Councillors, emails.

With two of the three major components of the website now gone, all that is left of myEdinburgh is a database of courses, which any internet developer will tell you can be whipped up for around ten thousand pounds.  Another milestone in the city’s history.

In case anyone wonders who was charged with building this site look no further than ‘Rosendale’s Fraudsters’, namely, Pete McDougall, David Hillson, Alistar Frater and of course the man himself Mike Rosendale.
