Councillor says ‘council are illegal’

john_Longstaff.jpgA waste recycling facility in Ratho used by the council is operating without the required licences and this was confirmed by Labour’s recent new councillor John Longstaff who defected to labour from the Lib Dems.

Councillor John Longstaff said: “Since they were accused of alleged unauthorised activities, I’ve seen activities that would have required planning permission. These include the installation of a weigh bridge and an associated office and also hoppers for waste storage.

Futher problems with the site which is currently under investigation include complaints about noise and dust from the plant and also the possiblilty of not having a required license from the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (Sepa), which could not be obtained without planning permission.

The road services division at the council has been invoiced £2364 for using the facility to tip waste since March and continue to tip illegaly knowing that the investigation is ongoing.
