This years hogmanay bash in the city will be marred by the news that the council intends to increase the entrance fees into the world renowned city centre party by 100% which is about 33 times the rate of inflation.
The formerly free party currently has an entrance fee of £2.50 but plans are being put in place to double that to £5.00 in what the council call “plans to change licensing laws regulating the festival.”
Once again we see that although the council tell us on one hand that the celebrations bring in millions to the city, then on the other they try and screw a little bit more out of everyone.
To get some more money, there is now talk of discussing proposals to allow alcohol to be sold for the first time at the street party which will then allow more money into council coffers on licensing applications and of course add to the binge drinking culture which currently blights the city centre.
