Once again the city council are ignoring the advice of the experts (again including the emergency services) and doing their political best to spoil one of the most beautiful streets in the city (which also houses EdSucks favourite store - H&I).
Lothian and Borders Police and the Scottish Licensed Trade Association both believe George Street has too many licensed premises and have previously urged the council and the city’s licensing board to refuse to allow to any more.
Last year the then deputy chief constable Malcolm Dickson failed in a bid to have licences for three major new premises knocked back.
It seems that everyone concerned, except the council think that there are huge problems with the amount of licensed premises on not only George Street but also it’s feeder streets.
Let’s see if Dick Dastardly’s committee listens to the experts and if they don’t then the concerned parties won’t get much help with Paul Nolan’s best friend, the dodgy Jack O’Donnell, on the licensing committee. Interestingly, the Evening News files the story under Alcohol & Binge Drinking.
