Little Nigel Griffiths is Tony’s new Best Friend

griffithsOffice.jpgEdinburgh South MP and total sleeze merchant little Nigel Griffiths it seems is crawling up the ariss of our soon to depart PM according to the latest copy of Private Eye:

“LABOUR MP Nigel Griffiths has been doing some adroit and persistent sucking-up to Tony Blair.

Griffiths has long been regarded as a Gordon Brownite but his behaviour on recent Wednesdays suggests otherwise.  At Prime Minister’s Questions every week he stands right next to the Speaker’s chair. This means that when Blair leaves the chamber at the end of PMQs, he has to walk straight past little Griffiths.

Each week this happens, and each week Griffiths, beaming broadly, is able to clap Blair on the shoulder - “well done, Prime Minister!” - and then escort him through the throng of other bystanders - “allow me, Prime Minister!” - while he pushes open the doors for Blair.

‘Backbiter’.

Griffiths, you will remember, is the very same MP who back in 2001 faced mounting pressure to resign over reports that he claimed £40,000 in allowances to cover the cost of renting an office he already owns. Mr Griffiths bought his Edinburgh office in 1997 with money from a legacy and is said to have claimed up to £10,000 in rent allowance every year since then from the Commons authorities.

Griffiths also claimed more in expenses last year than any other Lothians MP.  His claim for £149,551 made him the 26th most expensive MP in the country, figures released by the House of Commons show. The cash was claimed on top of his ministerial salary of £86,173.

Griffiths also is big in breaking the rules when it comes to elections.  He very narrowly won his seat at the last election but to get the seat Nasty Nigel had to get up to dirty tricks which included taking down the Liberal Democrats posters in the Morningside area, the Moderator of the Church of Scotland’s General Assembly had to tell Griffiths to stop using her picture on his election literature because it gave the impression Dr Elliot - who lives in the constituency - was endorsing Mr Griffiths, failed to attend hustings debates and put up illegal posters weeks before he was allowed to and the city’s cleansing department had to take them down at a cost to the city.

Why the hell would he be trying to get up Tory Bliar’s ariss?
