Ian Perry lies back and takes it

iperry2.jpgToday we hear that assisted area status is to be dropped in parts of Edinburgh and West Lothian.  The scheme which last year gave out more than £200 million to support the development of new projects, create jobs and safeguard jobs is being cut back to assist new EU member countries.

The development of West Lothian’s Silicon Glen was heavily supported by cash under the Regional Selective Assistance scheme first introduced in the mid 1980s.

High profile firms such as Motorola and NEC used the grants to create thousands of jobs in the area.

This is being fought tooth and nail by Livingston MP Jim Devine Linlithgow and East Falkirk MP Michael Connarty who reacted angrily to the news and promised to try and get West Lothian put back on the map and are having meetings with the industry minister Margaret Hodge.

However, Edinburgh’s very own Economic Spokesman Councillor Ian Perry just hasn’t got the fight in him:

“Clearly this is a disappointment but it was an expected development given the high level of business success in Edinburgh over the last decade.”

What a load of crap.  At least put up a bit of a fight for your electorate or stand aside and allow someone else to have the balls to fight for the city - just laying back and taking one for Tory Bliar and Two-Shags (or should that be Few-Shags) is not really what you were elected to do.  Maybe you are expecting to get the cowboy outfit hand-me-downs.
