We are reliably informed by our labour councillor friend that the leadership race is too close to call. It seems that Bunty Backhander is not as was thought an also-ran so that she would keep her nomination in the the re-organised council elections next year.
Our source tells us that at present there is only 3 votes between the first and third place.
Current rankings are:
Of course it is yet early days and councillors are still waiting to see if the Cityconnect/ELLP fiasco throws up criminal charges but they may be disappointed and that may not happen until the week after Aitken takes his seat as leader if he wins.
Councillors are also worried that there will be real bad news coming out of the Waterfront in the next year but Dick Dastardly is hoping it comes out before next months election and some think he may soon go public with his opinion if he thinks it will help his chances. He has already been assured the votes of former Lord Provost Teeth Milligan and Shami Khanolan.
Bunty Backhander has dragged herself up in the race by suggesting that if she is voted leader she will increase the amount of committees and give more high profile positions than her fellow runners hence increasing the income of her supporters.
