Despot heirarchy in Children & Families ruins education

jobson.jpgJust how wrong can the Children & Families department get the education of our city wrong.  Today we find from the Scotsman that Edinburgh have moved down in the list of truants in Scotland.  Unfortunately, that drop was not due to the council doing some good work to eradicate it but because other councils have just gotten worse.

In 2003-4, Edinburgh had the worst truancy rate in the country, at 3.3 per cent. Although it remained virtually unchanged last year, schools in other cities have since seen the problem grow, with the absence rate in Falkirk, for instance, rising to 5.5 per cent.

So with this virtual reduction in class sizes why did only a couple of weeks ago did we find out that:

SCHOOL pupils in Edinburgh are among the worst in Scotland when it comes to reading and maths.

A snap survey of all of the city’s primary and secondary schools found a significant number of pupils taken out of classes and tested at random failed exams in both skills.

Rosendale.pngSince this newfangled Children & Families department was introduced, it seems that all it has done is increase their budget, the officials salaries and let the education go to crap in the city.  The re-organisation of the council to make the Children & Families department ended up with some education officials awarding themselves a pay rise of as much as £28,000 in one foul swoop but more about that in another post.  Of course Fraudster Rosendale is their ‘head of strategy’ so should we expect more - we think not.
