EdSucks Works!

EdinburghSucks are losers!

At the glittering New Statesman New Media Awards last night in London, EdinburghSucks.com proved what many of our readership already thought, we’re losers.

As finalists in the awards, we failed to take away a gong and were soundly beaten (accompanied by a loud cheer from City Chambers) by the extremely high quality of the other finalists.

Throughout the awards we were proud to represent the city going from nomination, shortlisting and finally to finalist status only to walk away empty-handed bubbling like a baby.

Congratulations to the winner in our category which happily is a site we read often together with the Highly Commended entry:

Independent Information

Winner: openDemocracy
http://www.opendemocracy.net
OpenDemocracy focuses on the news the mainstream media often leaves behind. Writers take vital global topics, ranging from climate change to terrorism, and present them in a comprehensive, user-friendly angle that leaves readers inspired and impassioned. OpenDemocracy is a community where individuals who want to make a difference in the world can gather to discuss the issues of the present and set strategies for the future. The site’s articles not only inform, by also leave readers full of ideas about how to organise to tackle major issues. OpenDemocracy’s forums also give readers a chance to debate authors’ views and develop a global discussion of current events. The site routinely proves its unwavering commitment to democracy world-wide. Its ability to utilize a democratic process and its global focus in the realm of news analysis puts OpenDemocracy a clear winner.

Highly Commended: UK Freedom of Information Act

Maybe we should apply either for a grant from the Craigmillar Partnership to fund a commiseration party, or apply to the Council for a job in charge of something because we are such losers – but then again we don’t have friends in both camps so we would probably be knocked back, again! \
