Labour Leadership Race

Shami Khan, or is that Shami Dodger, splits Pakastani community

shamiKhan copy.jpgWith a hat-tip to ‘Filled Rolls’ for the new name, Shami Dodger should immediately dig deep into his pockets and offer to pay for the independent inquiry that will examine the incident and decide if racism played any part in the handling of the incident - this should not be taxpayers paying for this obviously unrequired inquiry. If the same reasoning follows then every person who is arrested and asian should have the same available to them. In fact, it shouldn’t stop with asians, everyone who considers themselves part of a minority should have the same doors opened for them. How would that help the law enforcement budgets?

EdinburghSucks are extremely happy that the Asian community have come out against the two-faced, public funds squandering disgrace for a councillor. This of course is not good for Trevor ‘Dick Dastardly’ Davies in his bid to win the leadership where he has Khan solidly in his camp. The questions we are now asking is what was Khan promised for his vote for Davies.

In todays Evening News we find that Mohammed Akram, president of the Council of British Pakistanis (Scotland), calling Shami Dodger’s statement:

“hollow and untrue”, adding: “If we were to extrapolate his views into the arrests of non-white citizens, then all non-white arrests would be racist.

“Such outbursts do incalculable damage to the excellent relationship which exists between Lothian and Borders Police and ethnic minority communities generally.

“Racism is a serious issue which all citizens need to tackle head on; to reduce it to a personality clash and personal vendettas is counter-productive.”

Other Pakistani community leaders also came out with damning comments about Shami Dodger:

Mohammed Aslam, chairman of The Pakistani Association Edinburgh and East of Scotland said: “It’s damaging for the community to make these statements.

“The case involves his son and we still don’t know what happened yet. But you have to be careful before you start attacking the police.”

For Khan to have the audacity to suggest that he has grass roots support of his community is a total lie if you look at the people who have posted comments on the News’ site.

Shami Dodger, like his buddy Paul Nolan should be removed from all his posts, especially in Dodger’s case the Police Board, forthwith or as soon as Teflon Don comes back from his holidays.

Khan - your community have binned you because you have shamed them - GO NOW you disgrace for a human being and definitely a disgrace for a public servant!

UPDATE: The whole saga has been very succinctly described by James in a comment on the Evening News site:

James / 7:48pm 25 Jul 2006

The Evening News are to be congratulated for providing a facility for readers to comment on events that affect members of the public and it would appear to have been used to good effect on this claim about racism in Lothian and Borders Police.

Mr Khan’s lack of integrity is highlighted by him using his position as councillor and police board member to try to gain advantage for his son who was arrested for breaking the law and should make him hang his head in shame.

Not for the first time has he produced the race card and claimed foul when there has been none.
It is very fortunate indeed, for Mr Khan, that the police do not make public the findings of the many independent enquiries instigated by him as he would be extremely embarrassed.

To make out every time one of his family does something wrong, it is down to police racism is farcical.
All allegations made regarding racial abuse need to be thoroughly investigated and Mr Khan knows this. This allows a member of his family who is in trouble to use as a defence the fact that an enquiry is ongoing regarding racism surrounding the incident. It’s not subtle but it does work and gives Mr Khan a high profile.

The real questions that need answered are why is his family always getting in trouble with the police and why is he allowed to remain on the police board and council? It is heartening to see that other persons from ethnic minorities, such as Mr Aslam, see him for what he is. There is no doubt a person from a minority background could face unacceptable behaviour due to their race and Lothian and Borders Chief Constable certainly appears determined to stamp out any such behaviour by dealing firmly with people who abuse others. He is also going further by training all his officers in diversity issues.

Each time Mr Khan claims abuse, it rightly necessitates a full investigation because no matter how many times Mr Khan cries wolf it does not permit the police to ignore him because one day it may be true. So for Mr Khan to insult Mr Tompkins by saying his force is racist is again indicative of the character of this man and shows Mr Khans failure to understand the damage he is doing to race relations.

He would provide a better service to the public by resigning from the council as he obviously has his own agenda which is not to achieve public harmony and good race relations.
