Current Lord Provost Lesley Hinds’ popularity was clear for all to see when she came second last in the fight down in the east of Edinburgh for the some to become the Susan Deacon’s successor and possibly loose the seat of Edinburgh East and Musselburgh for the labour party next year.
The pisspoor turnout at the vote of only 132 labour party members for the whole of huge constituency Edinburgh East and Musselburgh shows how the party’s fortunes and grass root support is going down the toilet.
Rumours circulating in the constituency amongst former and current labour supporters is that Hinds was the #1 Nolan supporter on the list and it went against her purely because of that fact.
Other Nolanites and labour party members , David Walker, Councillor Jack ‘Hick’ O’Daniels and disgraced ex-councillor David Brown were said to be gutted leaving the Jewel Miners Welfare Club.Â
Hinds, whose electioneering leafets and emails painted her as a heroine to the city and especially North Edinburgh and even had her claiming offices she didn’t hold. She claimed to be Chair of the social inclusion partnership but calls to the partnership today confirmed that Bunty Backhander is the bent chair of the partnership.
Hinds was so confident that she had the election in the bag that the email address Hinds used for the vote went unanswered for up to 10 days and party members questions went unanswered and we are led to beleive that one major question to Hinds during the campaign was her position on the Nolan factor which has disgusted not only Edinburgh East but the whole of the city.
Never mind Lesley, where to carpetbag now? The fight in Edinburgh Central will be a joy to watch.
