There are millions of things in Edinburgh that definitely don’t suck. One of those is what has been called the best thing about the Evening News and that is the Frank Boyle cartoon.
Just in time for Christmas, we at EdSucks are happy to see that there is a new Frank Boyle book of policial cartoons on the market featuring cartoons from 2003 through to 2006 including a couple that are below. The book is titled Boyling Point and is available at all good bookstores for a measly £7.99

For those of you that didn’t know, as well as appearing in the Evening News, Frank Boyle’s cartoons have also appeared in The Herald, Scotland on Sunday, Sunday Telegraph, Today, Sunday Post, New Statesman and Ken Loach’s film Carla’s Song (1996).

Between 1998 and 2003 Frank also appeared as a stand-up comic on the Scottish circuit, under the name Frank Quinn. He supported acts such as Johnny Vegas, Dara O’Briain and his namesake Frankie Boyle. This year, he was named Cartoonist of the Year at the Scottish Press Awards.

WHAT THE CRITICS SAY: |
|
“Now Scotland has its own parliament, it needs its own cartoonist. Vote Boyle!” |
|
“Frank Boyle is a master of the art of making cartoons, saying the unsaid and the unsayable. I just wish he wouldn¹t draw me as a wee fat wifie.” |
|
“Frank Boyle’s witty cartoons poke excellent fun at a city establishment that often takes itself too seriously.” |
When buying books this Christmas it is worth remembering the independent bookstores that are often squeezed out by the big chains. One worth mentioning is Word Power Bookshop in West Nicholson Street.
