Duncan Thorp

Morningside have an independent

We’re not sure if Duncan Thorp will ever make the pages of EdSucks as a politician but he has because he is just joined what is expected to be a large amount of independent candidates standing for the upcoming Parliamentary and Council elections.

Principles and Policies:

Principles

If elected I will become a PMSP (People’s Member of the Scottish Parliament). I will redefine what it means to be elected and I will reject the label of politician in order to work directly for people without political party interference. I will vote for what the majority of people in my constituency want me to vote for.

Though I will not support any policy that fundamentally contradicts my core, guiding principles:

  • Human rights and freedoms
  • Civil and political rights
  • Individual liberty and responsibility
  • Community
  • Honesty
  • Social justice
  • Environmental justice
  • Real, direct democracy
  • Anti-establishment politics, anti-political party and politician and anti-corruption.

Policies

My campaign themes will be:

People Power – I will campaign for direct people power, for human and political rights and democracy. In general I will support any initiative that positively extends political power to ordinary people and takes power away from politicians.

Environment – Supporting renewable energy and other green initiatives to tackle environmental challenges.

Education – A quality education and lifelong learning for all.

Crime - Protecting individuals, protecting communities, preventing crime.

Health – Health promotion and illness prevention.

Technology – Extending the benefits of modern communication technologies to all.

Formerly a Scottish Liberal Democrat press officer and MSP Parliamentary Aide with the slogan is “People not Politics Politicians” (amended error).  Would be interesting to find out why he left the LibDems?

If he wins a seat on either the council or in parliament, he is a cartoonist’s dream.
