Next Save Meadowbank meeting

The next organising meeting of the Save Meadowbank campaign will be held at the New Restalrig Church, Jocks Lodge at 7:30pm – it is expected to last until 9:30 pm.

UPDATE from the Save Meadowbank Campaign:

Given the at least partial success that we had on Thursday , the organising meeting has instead become a wee social at the Standing Order pub, George St.

Place: Standing Order, George St (between Hanover St and Frederick St)

My greatest memory of Meadowbank Stadium was the 1986 Commonwealth Games which I was covering for an Australian newspaper.  It was the 1500 metres and the guy from Guernsey was lapped twice by most of the runners. 

As he started his final lap, being the only person on the track, the whole of the Meadowbank Stadium including the Press, VIPs and the Royal Family all stood up and started cheering and clapping and they did it whist this guy ran the full circuit of Meadowbank to finish the race. 

Although that guy from Guernsey never won any medal that day, he was probably the most cheered competitor in the games and he certainly left Edinburgh a winner.
