A leaked letter from The Scottish National Party’s (SNP) national secretary has been sent to candidates offering guidance on how to handle the uncertain aftermath of the council election, which will mark a dramatic change from the previous party balance across much of the country.
The letter warns SNP candidates they should not form “formal coalitions” with Conservatives, as that would be barred by party policy dating back to the anti-poll tax campaign. However, with few councils having majority control, the SNP is likely to be forced into softening that stance on the Tories, and informal alliances are expected.
The letter, leaked to The Herald is targetting councillors elected today who may go for a sharply increased payment for their work, of a basic £15,000 per year with enhanced payments for those taking on committee and leadership responsibilities and they seem to think that some of their candidates will immediately start lining their own pockets.
This is a reason to VOTE FOR THE INDEPENDENT CANDIDATES BELOW - if the parties cannot trust their own candidates - why should the voters.
Don’t think the Labour haven’t done exactly the same. It has always been the case for more than 20 years that the central office of the labour party decides who their candidates jump into bed with.
