With the last year of her provostship, Lesley Hinds decided to head out on the World Tour to squeeze as much as possible out of the city before she was forced to stand down.
Now we all expect our councillors to have some expenses and probably the Lord Provost to have a few more than average but heading to South Africa to watch the “Homeless World Cup” deserves a good kick up the arse and demands for the money to be repaid to the city. How on earth did this help the city and who gave the permission to go on such a jaunt at taxpayers expense?
“As Lord Provost I felt it was right that I should try to represent the city of Edinburgh as much as I could.
“I have had more civic duties than in previous years and have been very busy trying to promote Edinburgh around the world.
She of course fails to mention that her duty-free cabinet in the hoose is now full to overloaded. How she could justify a visit as the Lord Provost of Edinburgh to the tsunami-hit resort of Banda Aceh in Indonesia defies logic. What did she tell them? “When in a few years you have finally gotten your houses, hospitals, schools and roads built, come to Edinburgh and we’ll show you how to trash them again.
It is interesting also to note Cardownie’s comments on the story in the Evening News, “I don’t know how she has managed to claim that much.” As was pointed out in the story on the Evening News website by helpmaboab:
What a hollier than thou stance he is taking. Let me remind you coucillor that in 2005 you claimed £6558. In 2003 it was £9371, which was £2613 more than the then lord provost , Eric Milligan. Finally lets not forget 2000, when you claimed £937 for mobile phone bills.
That Cardownie guy has really got some chukkies but at least he doesn’t have to lend some of them to Lesley.
Lesley Hinds also had the hightest “Basic and Special responsibility Allowances” at £41,477 bringing her total cash-in up to £50,346 and a chauffered driven limo.
