It is time to join a library and get
his Janet and John books out.
The Scottish Government launched a major initiative yesterday to use Scottish food to boost the nation’s health, environment and economy. Nothing bad in that I hear you say - and we agree.
Richard Lochhead, the Cabinet secretary for the environment, unveiled a “national discussion” about Scottish food which, he hopes, will co-ordinate policy across all departments and cover every aspect of the food chain. He even went to a breakfast club in Edinburgh to show his committment.
It seems either the SNP want to steal someone else’s idea or they are too ignorant to find out what is going on in the arena they are trying to make policy - does the minister need better advisers?
Strangely enough someone in the private sector has already been doing this and it is currently working but the high and mighty ministers didn’t even bother to meet him.
Jim Mullen, a Fife-based entrepreneur, is setting up a series of distribution hubs, bringing in local produce and delivering it to local consumers online.
Jim Mullen is now responding to inquiries from other European governments that are interested in his scheme, because of the lack of a response from his own ministers.
He has developed the software allowing the model to be replicated around the country, cutting food miles, giving producers a local market, bringing consumers locally produced food and doing exactly what the Scottish Government wants.
Mr Mullen said this was what his initiative, larderbytes.com, was delivering but he had not managed to secure even a meeting with a minister to see how his scheme could help.

Mr Mullen said he was not looking for money but he did want help and support, particularly as he was doing everything the Scottish Government was looking to achieve.

Of course our minister isn’t exactly au fait with research. It was only in 2006 that he managed to get round to signing up for a library card as our picture shows.
