The truth behind Ian Perry’s ₤400,000

alt text

₤400,000 on top of his Councillor pay and expenses.

Well it was nice to see a follow-up story in the Evening Chip Paper about Ian Perry getting ₤400,000 of council money over 10 years when he never even knew he was doing the job. It really is a bit of a joke.

Hands off the Sick Kids

Hey SNP, Hands of the Sick Kids

As sometimes happens, Edinburgh Sucks.com sometimes has a different view on events from the Evening News. We’d like to take you back to the beginning of October 2007 (5th to be exact) when an EdSucks freelance researcher sent the following email to Stevenson College because of just digging around on the Council’s website looking at Registers of Interest:

Can you please supply the following information under FOIA(S):

1. Date of appointment of Councillor Ian Perry as Lecturer at Stevenson College.
2. Pay Grade(s) for Councillor Perry since the year 2000 or date of appointment whichever is earlier.
3. Subjects in which Councillor Perry gives lectures.
4. Number of lectures Councillor Perry gives per week on average for 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006 & 2007, where applicable.

Because we had prior information that Perry was telling porkies an SNP councillor who took great delight in the situation on the telephone was blind copied.

The same day, the reply came from Stevenson College:

Dear xxxxxxxxxxxx

I write to acknowledge receipt of your e-mail and to give you the following information in response to your questions.

1 Ian Perry was appointed as a lecturer on 5 October 1979.

2 As you know, Mr Perry is seconded on a full-time basis to Wester Hailes Education and Training Managers’ Group and has been since 1998. His salary for this is paid entirely by that organisation and his salary grade is a matter for that organisation to decide. His salary grade for the years from his appointment to 1998 was a lecturer grade.

3 Mr Perry has not given any lectures in the College since 1998. He used to teach management and labour studies prior to this.

4 Mr Perry has not given any lectures in the College in the years 2002 – 2007.

So there we have it, and we were lacking by not doing a post at the time. Sorry readers.

However, imagine our shock when this rolled up again and it was Conservative councillor Alastair Paisley, who filed the complaint with the Standards Commission. What happened to the SNP councillor? Are SNP now passing all the secrets to the Tories? The Evening News first ran with the story here on 7th December 2007 – Coincidence? Bollocks!

Hands off Our Community Centres

Go back and look at the CLD Review – it’s wrong!

No matter how it was done, we are happy it is done. Lying councillors should be rooted out, named and shamed – all thanks to all in EdSucks towers.

When the story came to light last month, he [Perry] said the omission had simply been an oversight and vowed to co-operate fully with the investigation. Well that’s all very strange because if you look at his register of interest today he has still not had that “oversight” corrected – some lecturer he would be if he actually did that.

Of course regular readers will know that it was EdinburghSucks.com who broke the story (Jobs(on) for the boys still alive and well) that it was Councillor Perry who secretly gave retired former Children & Families director, Roy Jobson, a nice cushy job with council-owned EDI just before labour were binned at the last election which also made headline news.

It is interesting today to find out that our favourite department is again in limelight: “The council’s children and families department has been funding Mr Perry’s post via Stevenson College, from where he is seconded.” In the words of my last bus driver, “Arse well and truly felt”. Ever wonder why Children & Families have such a large defecit.

No wonder he has two houses in his register of interests.
