Scottish Parliament

One too many Dicks in Parliament

Richard Calvocoressi needs covering up

Richard (Dick) Calvocoressi needs to be covered up

In showing the pubic of Edinburgh that there is definitely too many Dicks in Parliament, the Evening News today brings us the story that an art ‘expert’ who is one of the lucky ones who serves on the Scottish Parliament’s art advisory group and decides what we will see has come out against the people who pay his wages, metaphorically branding them plebs.

Richard Calvocoressi, who spent almost 20 years with his nose firmly and deeply wedged in the public funds trough as the director of the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art, is now telling us all that we don’t count. Public opinion is for the public and his “artistic judgment” should overrule that.

It seems that the public have taken an attachment to the iconic Lion of Scotland sculpture which currently sits outside the Scottish Parliament building in Holyrood as part of an exhibition of Ronald Rae’s sculptures currently running in the Park. The sculpture was to be moved when the exhibition closes but local Edinburgh punters wanted it to stay and got the backing of various MSPs and Mr. Rae was quite happy to give it on long term loan to the Parliament – for a change, something in Parliament would cost us nothing.

Not happy with the wishes of the people, the obviously overpaid buffoon decides that the best place for the sculpture would be a business park in Yorkshire. Strange to think that this person spends his time running round Yorkshire business parks trying to figure out what would be the best piece of art to plonk down here. Maybe if he is as specialised in finding artworks for Yorkshire business parks he should take his arse of the Scottish Parliament’s art advisory group and rest it down at the Yorkshire where he may get lost on those wild moors.

Maybe if Calvocoressi cannot bring himself to like the artwork that the people of Edinburgh seem to like then he shouldn’t bother bringing himself to Parliament again and allow someone else to be able to accept a gift for free if that’s what the people want.
