Clowncillors agree with millionaires pricing for council funded creches

Clowncillor Cardownie’s serious case of foot in mouth became evident when he said a couple of weeks ago that Edinburgh Leisure’s job wasn’t providing childcare. That is completely evident when one does a quick calculation of Edinburgh Leisure’s prices and figures. As a company, they are so pisspoor at the job, despite excellent front-line staff, that they have managed to catapult the city to top of the Highest Prices for Childcare charts and the vast majority of this ultra-expensive care is supplied by workers who are paid slightly more than McDonalds burger flippers.

We at EdSucks wonder what the clowncillors on the Leisure Committee do with their time because it seems thinking is alien to them as they keep repeating the £13 subsidy on each creche place to allow them to slash front-line services without thinking it through to it’s natural conculusion.

Lets say that we have a mother who wants to use the creche for 3 hours per day Monday to Friday. (Clowncillors will have to get their officials to show them how to use a calculator at this stage. The numbers are too big for their normal way of counting which is fingers, then taking off socks and shoes when it gets difficult.)

Edinburgh Leisure’s supposed subsidy
13 x 2 = £26 per day. £26 x 5 = £130 per week. £130 x 52 = £6,760 per year.

PLUS Parent’s Contribution
£5.80 x 2 = £11.60 per day. £11.60 x 5 = £58 per week. £58 x 52 = £3,016 per year.

Now we add the £3,016 to the £6,760 which gives us a grand total of £9,776 per year that Edinburgh Leisure says it costs them to provide childcare for their users.

Where all these figures fall down and are shown to be lies is that you can put your children in to the nurseries at:

Cargilfiled School for £3,556.70 p.a.
George Watsons for £3,291 p.a.
Edinburgh Academy for £3,960 p.a.

So you could send three children to George Watsons School nursery for less than the price of one child to Edinburgh Leisure’s creche. Why did none of the clowncillors bother to check out lying Edinburgh Leisure’s figures? In the unlikely case of Edinburgh Leisure’s figures being correct, then why does it cost Edinburgh Leisure three times, or almost three times, the cost to look after a child than it does George Watsons, Cargilfield and Edinburgh Academy. We have already proven that mothers wishing to keep themselves and their children fit would be much cheaper going along to the ultra-swish One Spa at the Sheraton and take advantage of the free parking as well.

The upper management at Edinburgh Leisure have to go. They have either lied to not only our elected clowncillors but the city through the Evening Chip Paper or have no idea of how to run a business and are pissing our money into the Forth with great abandon.
