City Labour Group leader tries for new job

Andrew Burns and the Darling PorkiesIt seems that Councillor Andrew Burns, the leader of the Labour group on the City Council is getting fed up with his job and is going to have a go at freelancing as a sit down comedian – is Tommy Shepherd standing by at The Stand?

In today’s Evening Chip Paper, Councillor Burns gives us what is obviously part of his new act. Speaking about our grubby thieving Chancellor, Alistair “Eybrows” Darling he starts off with a cracker “He is highly regarded locally both as Chancellor and a constituency MP.” which had the readers spluttering all over their keyboards when it was first read and those who were reading newspapers in the street got into such a state they were given council-sponsored ASBOs.

Not a man to mince his words, the labour leader then went into his second howler. “He is an extremely popular and hard-working local MP.” That one will definitely get him straight into the final of Edinburgh’s got Talent. But the one that had everyone, even the Chancellor himself, pissing in their pants had to be “His position locally is very secure.”

Councillor Burns really must have a huge future ahead of him on the comedy circuit and we have no doubt at all that Simon Cowell will be on the phone just as soon as his battery has been recharged.

So that the big Laybur yin, can get some more crackers, he may be interested to know that EdSucks conducted some research last Thursday afternoon ahead of the European hustings in St. Marys. We asked 316 students passing through Bristo Square the following question:

Do you trust politicians? They were given the choice of 3 answers. Yes, No or Don’t know.

Results:

No 294
Yes 9
Don’t know 0
Never Answered 13

Maybe the good councillor can have a look at those figures, listen to what people say on the doorsteps if he has the guts to knock on doors and come up with some new crackers for the Edinburgh’s Got Talent show that will be coming round at the next election.
